Founded in 1954 by Clement 'Sir Coxsone' Dodd (1932-2004), named after cricket player Alec Coxon. One of the 'big three' sounds alongside Duke Reid and King Edwards. Founded Studio One in 1963 - known as 'Jamaica's Motown.' Launched the careers of Burning Spear, Toots and the Maytals, and The Wailers.
