About Duke Reid the Trojan

Founded in 1950 by Arthur 'Duke' Reid (1915-1975), originally as promotion for his Treasure Isle Liquor Store. Named 'The Trojan' after the British-made Trojan vans used to transport equipment. Won Jamaica's top sound-system battle three years running (1956-1958) and was crowned 'King of Sounds and Blues.' Founded Treasure Isle Records, which became Jamaica's most famous label during the rocksteady era. Known for his dramatic persona - carrying loaded revolvers, wearing capes, and entering venues on shoulders wearing a crown.
