About Silver Hawk
Silver Hawk Sound System was founded by legendary producers Wycliffe 'Steely' Johnson and Cleveland 'Clevie' Browne. The name came from Steely's silver motorcycle called 'The Hawk.' Most active from 1987-1994, Silver Hawk and Stone Love led the transition from live artists to recorded dubplates as the dominant medium in sound system culture. The original crew included selectors Ballsie, Jerry, and Fatta, with Richie Poo joining in 1991. Steely & Clevie's production duo created infectious digital beats that made them the go-to rhythm builders of the 80s and 90s, working with Dawn Penn, Gregory Isaacs, Shabba Ranks, and Super Cat. After Steely's passing in 2009, the sound was relaunched in 2010.
