About King Tubby's Hometown Hi-Fi
Founded by Osbourne 'King Tubby' Ruddock (1941-1989), the pioneer and inventor of dub music and the concept of the remix. King Tubby's Hometown Hi-Fi featured U-Roy as resident toaster, launching his legendary career. Known for high-quality custom equipment and exclusive releases, King Tubby 'played' the mixing desk like an instrument, creating echo and reverb effects that were revolutionary at the time. He opened his own studio in Waterhouse in 1971. Tragically, he was murdered outside his home on February 6, 1989.
