About Saxon Sound
Saxon Studio International was established in Lewisham, South London in 1976 by Lloyd 'Musclehead' Francis and Denis Rowe. Saxon pioneered the revolutionary 'fast chat' MC style through Peter King and Papa Levi, which became hugely influential. The training ground for Smiley Culture, Maxi Priest, and Tippa Irie, Saxon helped bring British reggae onto Top of the Pops in the mid-1980s. In 1994, Saxon became the first UK sound system to win the World Clash. Acknowledged by Jazzie B as a key influence on Soul II Soul, and saluted by KRS One, Chuck D, and Wyclef Jean, Saxon's innovation led to the formation of Jungle, Drum & Bass, UK Garage, and Grime.
